The cradle of art and history in Abruzzo: the Museum of Sacred Art in Torano Nuovo

Bearing witness to the rich history and religious tradition of the Abruzzese region, the Museum of Sacred Art in Torano Nuovo will welcome you with an exhibition of sacred works of art of great value.

Attached to the village’s sanctuary, the Church of the Madonna delle Grazie, the museum houses a collection of sacred objects ranging from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. It includes the 15th-century Astylar Cross in silver foil on a wooden support, attributed to the School of Nicola da Guardiagrele and considered a masterpiece of Abruzzese goldsmithing for its refined openwork and enamel decoration, and the Reliquary of Saint Flaviano, patron saint of Torano Nuovo, made of silver and gilded copper, a fine example of 18th-century Abruzzese sacred art.

In addition to these works of particular value, the museum also exhibits a rich collection of chalices, monstrances, sacred vestments, paintings and numerous ex-votos of remarkable historical and artistic value, which offer a suggestive insight into the popular devotion and religious history of Torano Nuovo and the entire Abruzzo region.
