Discovering the natural beauty of the Teramo coast, from Alba Adriatica to Silvi

This tour will take you among the wonders of the Teramo coast, from Alba Adriatica to the golden beaches of Silvi.

Stage 1
Alba Adriatica

The first destination of your tour will be on the shores of the ‘Silver Beach’, the beautiful Alba Adriatica

You will be enchanted by the beauty of its coastline, a jewel decorated with silvery sand and crystal-clear waters that turn deep blue in warmer seasons.

The Guglielmo Marconi promenade, a wide avenue with a well-equipped cycle lane, is part of the ambitious Bike to Coast project, a cycle route that aims to connect the entire Abruzzo coastline: it will be perfect for your walks in complete safety and relaxation.

We suggest you walk or cycle to the Spiaggia del Fratino e del Giglio di Mare (Fratino and Sea Lily Beach), a destination you absolutely must not forget. This is a protected area recognised by the WWF and dedicated to the protection of the small wading bird and the typical wild flower of the Mediterranean coast, both endangered.

Add, as the last point of your naturalistic walk, the Pineta (pinewood), Alba Adriatica’s green lung, which stretches along the entire coastline. In the shade of these tall guardians, it will be pleasant to pause to relax a little and gather energy, lulled by a pleasant breeze and the subtle sound of the leaves.

Stage 2
Tortoreto

The itinerary to discover the natural wonders of the Teramo coastline continues towards Tortoreto. The seaside town is part of the network of the Città della Corsa e del Cammino (Cities of Running and Walking) thanks to its splendid and well-equipped promenade, ideal for relaxing walks or bike rides or for running.

Accompanying the sporting activity or relaxation is the beautiful panorama of golden beaches, clear waters and tall palm trees that suggest exotic landscapes.

During your walk, you can take a break in the children’s playgrounds, in the well-equipped fitness areas or in one of the beach chalets, cosy facilities where you can regenerate with a cool drink or try the specialities of the local cuisine.

Stage 3
Roseto

Continue your tour by reaching Roseto degli Abruzzi, a seaside town also known as ‘Lido delle Rose’.

Thanks to its wide beaches of soft sand and shallow waters, also reachable via a wide, well-equipped bicycle path, it is one of the most important tourist centres on the Abruzzo Riviera, among the seven pearls of Teramo’s ‘garden coast’.

An unmissable destination will be the Borsacchio Nature Reserve, a protected area of unspoilt beauty, characterised by the presence of dunes and stretches of Mediterranean scrub, a natural habitat for rare species of birds, a unique place for lovers of nature, outdoors and wild landscapes.

Within this enchanting paradise you will also find Villa Mazzarosa Devincenzi, an early 20th century building where Senator Giuseppe Devincenzi, politician and agronomist, built his laboratory for agricultural experimentation. A small curiosity: the largest oak cask in Europe is preserved inside its cellars.

Stage 4
Pineto

Continuing your walk, stop in the beautiful and characteristic Pineto. As they say, a name is a guarantee! The Teramo seaside town, in fact, owes its name to the presence of lush, luxuriant pine forests that line much of its promenade, embellishing the landscape with greenery.

A must-see place along your itinerary should be the Cerrano Tower, a mighty guardian towering on the stretch of coastline between Pineto and Silvi, which can also be reached via a comfortable cycle path, a part of the Adriatic Green Corridor. A defensive outpost built by the Spanish in the 16th century, it was renovated in the 1990s and is currently home to the Cerrano Protected Marine Area.

On the beach in front of it, you will come across one of the naturalistic peculiarities of the Adriatic town: a dune area whose main purpose is to protect the fratino bird and the Mediterranean flora, such as the sea lily and the Gargano mullein.

Looking out to sea, it will also be easy to identify the ancient underwater structures that can be traced back to the Roman port of the city of Hadria.

This area is rich in natural rarities, including the ‘Cenerone’, a kind of small mud volcano formed by the spontaneous rising to the surface of hydrocarbons mixed with clays, liquid mud and salt water, which have accumulated creating a conical emergence inside the circular crater. The volcano is included among the geosites of the Abruzzo region.

Finally, we suggest you climb up to the ancient village of Mutignano, testimony to Pineto’s historical roots, and reach the Castellaro Park, a panoramic oasis that, among ancient trees, paths and belvedere, is a meeting place for citizens and tourists alike.

Stage 5
Silvi

Leaving the Cerrano Tower behind you, you will conclude your tour in Silvi, defined by Gabriele d’Annunzio as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. This name already gives you an idea of the beauty of the town, framed by the splendid golden sandy beach and attractive clear waters.

Like the previous towns, Silvi alternates its coastline with wonderful forests and parks, in a metaphorical embrace of nature, characteristic of the Adriatic coast.

Be sure to reach the ancient village of Silvi Alta: from the panoramic Belvedere you can admire the entire coastline, letting your gaze wander over all the stops you have visited on this itinerary.

Conclude your tour by tasting typical local seafood products, the ideal way to take this experience of discovering the nature of the Teramo coast into your heart.
