A gateway now completely incorporated into the skeleton of the village. From here, you will find yourself in the historic centre of the village, where you will feel transported back to times of ladies and knights, of horse fights and court balls. The old square you will pass, which was created by the demolition of the old Church of Saint Flaviano, with the narrow streets that surround it, concludes this splendid townscape.

On your visit to the village, we recommend a stop at the Museum of Sacred Art, adjacent to the 17th-century Church of Madonna delle Grazie, built as the chapel of the Congregation of Charity. The museum promotes and recovers timeless values such as faith, culture, art and traditions. It houses works of great historical and artistic quality, including the Astile Cross, attributed to Nicola da Guardiagrele, an incomparable artefact shaped in silver foil on a wooden support.

Then head towards the hamlet of Varano to visit another jewel of Torano Nuovo, the Church of San Massimo a Varano, built around the 10th-11th century and already listed in 1066 among the properties under the jurisdiction of Montecassino. The structure is an example of Abruzzese Romanticism; the west façade features a beautiful portal, on which there must have been a Montecassino or noble emblem of more recent times.

But that’s not all! In addition to its historical and artistic peculiarities, the village is renowned for its culinary and wine specialities: it is a Paese del Gusto (Town of Taste), Città del Vino (City of Wine) and, above all, Capital of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
