An <\/span>oasis of biodiversity<\/b> that offers you a spectacle of sand dunes, lush vegetation and rare animal species: the <\/span>Martinsicuro<\/a> Coastal Biotope<\/b> is a unique natural heritage, not to be missed if you are on holiday on the Abruzzo coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to providing effective protection <\/span>against coastal erosion<\/b> thanks to the abundant sand reserve present, the Coastal Biotope is an important <\/span>refuge for flora and fauna<\/b>. It covers approximately two hectares of unspoiled, low, sandy beaches, characterised by the presence of dunes, an increasingly rare element to be found along the Italian coastline. Classified in 1987 as a biotope by the Italian Botanical Society, this site is the first and most important example of the <\/span>reconstitution of a dune environment<\/b> in Abruzzo. It is home to more than <\/span>40 native and spontaneous botanical species<\/b> that were once widespread along the entire Adriatic coast but are now rare and <\/span>endangered<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These include the precious <\/span>sea lily<\/b>, the beach <\/span>alfalfa<\/b> and the rare beach <\/span>bluebell<\/b>, the valuable <\/span>psammophilous<\/b> vegetation, the so-called \u2018sand-friend\u2019, the beach mullein, the spurge and the ravastrello. Moulded by the wind and the sea, the dunes also create an ideal environment for the survival and growth of various animal species, including the <\/span>plover<\/b>, a small limicolous bird that nests in the sand in spring and finds the <\/span>ideal habitat<\/b> for breeding and living undisturbed in this space.<\/span><\/p>\n
