Of pre-Roman origins, the village retains its typical medieval structure, a sign of a glorious past. A direct testimony are the two <\/span>towers<\/b> still present, built by the wishes of the <\/span>Acquaviva<\/b> family, lords of the village from the 14th century, who established their refuge here due to the presence of numerous strongholds. Above the keep you can see the area now called \u2018the fortress\u2019, in memory of the fortified palace that stood tall in defence of the village.<\/span><\/p>\n

A place of great prestige and beauty, to linger during a walk, is the <\/span>Church of Santa Maria la Nova<\/b>, characterised by a portal dating from 1424, the work of the Neapolitan artist <\/span>Matteo de Caprio<\/b>, and a bell tower made of stone in the lower part and terracotta in the upper part. Inside the church is a sumptuous Baroque wooden altar, with a 15th-century tabernacle and a column for the Easter candle with a capital dating from 1383.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not far away is the <\/span>former Church of Santo Spirito<\/b><\/a>, now home to an Auditorium. The building retains an 18th-century fa\u00e7ade with unusual terracotta decorations, also repeated in the entablature above the round-arched portal.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Between history and folklore, very characteristic is the culinary tradition of \u2018<\/span>cingoli cellinesi al sugo di papera <\/b>(duck sauce)\u2019, also known as \u2018cordoni dei frati\u2019 due to the type of pasta, about thirty cm long and three mm thick. This typical preparation dates back to the Middle Ages and is linked to the presence of the Franciscan friars, for whom cingoli were the \u2018festive dish\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n
